Is it actually feasible for any of us to take command of our personal life experiences and to reconstruct our individual environment, at least partially, through the repetition of positive affirmations?

There is a lot of corroboration to support the power of positive affirmations to bring about more desirable circumstances, from “creating” a parking spot or a new job, to attracting the perfect life partner, or to promoting inner peace. We might want to take a personal “reality check,” however, to make sure that we truly trust that thought, our thought, has creative power before we put a lot of effort in attempting to alter the circumstances of our life through a continuous “mental focus” on the changes we want, so that we’re not simply “whistling in the dark,” so to speak.

If we believe that “certain things” in our personal life have no mental substructure or thought correlation, but instead are totally and unarguably physical in origin, then how can we expect to positively change the conditions in our personal life through positive affirmations? If we doubted that by changing our thinking through affirmations, we could change our personal life, then what good would affirmations do for us? It is necessary that we have at least a “mustard seed” of faith in the power of our mental focus and affirmations move a mountain in our individual life, in order for them to work.

We all display a bit of faith everyday. Have you ever been “surprised” at a sunrise? Did the possibility that the sun might not come up in the morning ever cross your mind? It’s highly unlikely that it’s occurred to any of us to question our faith in the earth’s gravitational relationship to the sun. We can begin by knowing that we do, in fact, have a mustard seed of faith within us and we can grow a garden of faith with it.

Saying affirmations while filled with uncertainty, fluctuating between faith and fear, is similar to filling a balloon with water instead of air. Our desires wiggle here and bulge there, but they never take flight. Why does faith give soaring power to our affirmations? Because unshakable faith is a mental insistence that elevates what we “say” we believe to a place of realization. This is the “secret” to creative mental power, turning mere words into substance. When our affirmations feel true, when what we say is what we truly believe, then affirmations can really change our life.
